Granny is a character from the film My Neighbor Totoro. She owns the house that the Kusakabes move into. She tells Mei and Satsuki that they can call her Granny. In the Streamline dub, she is known as "Nanny."

Personality

Granny is kind towards the family as she looked over the house before the family moved in as well as offers to help look after Mei on numerous occasions. She also seems caring and always willing to help. Granny also shared her fresh grown crops including corn and cucumbers with the girls telling them they will help them get strong. When Mei gets lost Granny is concerned and tries to help Satsuki and Tatsuo Kusakabe in as many ways as possible.

Appearance

She has slightly tanned skin which is heavily wrinkled on her face. She has straight grey hair that is typically covered by a white headscarf and she wears clothes in various shades of purple, usually trousers and a shirt.

Relationships

Mei

Granny and Mei are fairly close, as Granny looks after Mei on various occasions, however when they are

together, Mei usually wants to be with Satsuki instead, even refusing to stop crying if Granny didn't take her to Satsuki, on one occasion where no one could look after Mei since Tatsuo was at work and Satsuki was at school.

Kanta

Kanta is granny grandson and Granny lives with Kanta and his family. She cares for him in the same way she does for the Kusakabes, as she seems to act as Granny to the whole village.

Satsuki

Granny is close with Satsuki but is closer to her sister, Mei. Granny lets Satsuki try her vegetables and comforts her when Satsuki fears that her mother will pass away from tuberculosis.
