Hayao Miyazaki is a Japanese film director, writer, animator, producer, illustrator and manga artist. His career has spanned six decades and is known as the leader of his field. He was active from 1963 until 2014. He has also created manga, reaching worldwide audiences.
His most well known productions include the topic of this wiki, My Neighbor Totoro, and several other films, such as Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke. He has also won over 90 awards for his feature films.
Miyazaki co-founded Studio Ghibli, the company in which he has created most of his success, with Isao Takahata, on June 15th, 1985.
Miyazaki often uses recuring themes in his works, such as feminism, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. He does this by having strong, independent girls, or women as his protagonists.
In 2014, it was announced that Miyazaki is retiring from Studio Ghibli.
