Isao Takahata is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli. He is a film director, animator, screen writer and producer. He's known for his contributions to Studio Ghibli and anime films.
He is best known for his part in directing the anime film Grave of the Fireflies, a wartime film that has been called one of the greatest war films ever made. It was also the first Studio Ghibli film that he had directed. He is also known for directing films such as Only Yesterday.
Although he is an animator, he has actually never drawn or worked as an animator, before becoming a director. According to Hayao Miyazaki, "Music and study are his hobbies".
