Tatsuo Kusakabe is the father of the two heroines, Mei and Satsuki Kusakabe, in the Studio Ghibli film, My Neighbor Totoro. He is a secondary character, and is married to Yasuko Kusakabe. He works in a college as a professor of Archaeology, and is seen working a lot at home and leaving Mei to play on her own.

Personality

Tatsuo comes across as caring and intelligent. He also seems like a good father, as he joins in with Satsuki and Mei when they talk of Totoro and the soot sprites.

Appearance

He has dark, black hair and dark eyes. He typically wears glasses and has slightly tanned skin. He is tall and fairly skinny and is usually seen wearing a shirt and a pullover.

Tatsuo acts warmly and lovingly towards his daughters, although they don't seem to spend much time in his

company. He goes along with their childishness and enjoys playing along with them. He encourages them and it is unclear if he really does believe in Totoro and the soot sprites, but he doesn't ever doubt them, and is a good father.

Totoro

Totoro and Tatsuo don't exactly have a relationship, as they never meet, but Tatsuo acts warmly towards him and fully believes in him.

Yasuko

Tatsuo and Yasuko are married, and they have Satsuki and Mei, so they obviously get along and it is clear that they miss eachother when Tatsuo visits her in hospital.
