Yasuko Kusakabe is the mother of Satsuki and Mei Kusakabe, the protagonists, of the film My Neighbor Totoro. She is a supporting character, since she is seen few times in the film. She is married to Tatsuo Kusakabe and is the reason the Kusakabe family move to their new house. This is because she is sick with tuberculosis[1] and is recovering in the hospital nearby the new house.

Not much is seen of her, but she comes across as affectionate, kind and loving. She seems like a good mother and really cares about her children.
